Event Info

Greek Day on Broadway is the finale event of the annual Greek Heritage Month festival in Vancouver. Presented by the Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC, the festival aims to share the rich Greek culture which spans 2500 years of history, including over 100 years of social and cultural contributions to the City of Vancouver. The Hellenic Canadian Congress of BC is an association of Greek organizations and communities representing Canadians of Hellenic heritage in the province of BC to various levels of government. It fosters education, communication, and cooperation between Hellenic Canadians and other ethnic groups, and promotes the development of just and equitable policies and legislation concerning all citizens. The Congress encourages and promotes the retention and development of Hellenism in BC within the multicultural context of Canada.

Greek Day on Broadway takes place this year on Sunday, June 24th 2018. A five block stretch on West Broadway measuring almost one kilometre, from MacDonald to Blenheim is closed off to traffic to make room for a world of delicious Greek food and drink, market vendors, entertainment, and live music offering a laid back, yet lively Greek atmosphere. This award-winning festival presents valued community partners the opportunity to exhibit products, promote travel experiences, or showcase their brand to a massive captive consumer audience.

Getting here? It’s recommend people take public transit or ride their bike to the festival. Cyclists wishing to use The Bicycle Valet should enter Greek Day from the Blenheim Street entrance.

Betty, Eleni and Samantha Bakopoulos became a presence on the culinary scene with the launch of their cookbooks, Three Sisters Around the Greek Table and Three Sisters Back to the Beginning (Adelfes 2009, 2013).  Hot off the presses, their books won a multitude of awards: The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for Best Foreign Cookbook in Canada (2009), Best Mediterranean Cookbook (2013), New York Book Festival winner (2011), Taste Canada Finalist (2013) and both cookbooks have gone on to become bestsellers.

After countless television appearances, radio guest spots, and newsprint media highlights over the years, the authors have become known as “The 3 Greek Sisters” and have been coined “the ambassadors of Greek food for Canada”.

Their bestselling cookbooks celebrate both food and family and share the secrets of the healthy Greek kitchen.  “The preparation of food in Greek culture is an expression of love.  It says to those whom you prepare it for, you are worth the effort.  Like love, good food is comforting. For those preparing it, it is rewarding.  For those who share in the feast, it is life affirming.
